Assistant Research Scientist/Survey Manager: Social Networks and Health in Rural Senegal
The George Washington University is seeking a qualified applicant to fill a post-doctoral research and survey management position for a methodologically groundbreaking NIH funded study of health and social networks in rural Senegal in collaboration with the Institut de Recherche pour le Development (IRD). The position will entail approximately 6 months fieldwork in Senegal starting in November or December 2013, with the remainder of the contract in residence at the IRD offices in Dakar and the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
The research scientist will supervise data collection, assure quality control and supervise personnel and logistical operations for a large survey in collaboration with an interdisciplinary and international scientific team and the staff of the IRD. The researcher will also work collaboratively with project investigators to produce original research using the data collected.
Applicants should have completed all the requirements for a Ph.D. in anthropology, economics, sociology, demography or other related social science discipline having had training in survey design and data collection by the time of appointment. Fluency in French is a prerequisite; prior experience working in Africa is also desirable.
