CALL FOR PAPERS FOR SPECIAL ISSUE OF SOCIAL NETWORKS ON MULTILEVEL SOCIAL NETWORKS.

A special issue of the journal Social Networks on Multilevel Social Networks will be guest-edited by Garry Robins (Melbourne), Alessandro Lomi (Lugano) & Mark Tranmer (Manchester)

Background:

The study of how social relations connect or decouple multiple levels of analysis is one of the central themes in the analysis of social networks.

It is surprising therefore that – despite the general availability of statistical models for multilevel inference – models for multilevel networks have become available only relatively recently.

The purpose of this special issue is to provide a forum for members of the international scientific community interested in multilevel social networks and to provide an opportunity to summarize and extend contemporary research on network approaches for multilevel inference.

Appropriate topics for papers that will be included in the special issue include, but are not limited to:

* The definition of multilevel networks;
* Differences and similarities between multilevel models and models for multilevel social networks;
* The kinds of inferences that can be made regarding multilevel networks;
* The way in which multilevel networks might be modeled;
* The types of multilevel network data that are available;
* Strategies for the collection of multilevel network data;
* The kind of empirical settings that would be more useful for developing and testing multilevel network models;

Groups, organizations, markets and communities are examples of appropriate contexts in which such issues may be addressed.

Important deadlines:

We are inviting prospective authors to submit an expression of interest in the form of an extended abstract (500 words maximum) that should be received by: June 30th 2013.

Expressions of interest should be sent to Alessandro Lomi at this address: al656@cam.ac.uk

Please note the only way to submit abstracts is via al656@cam.ac.uk . Please do not try to submit abstracts via the Social Networks journal submission system, or by any other means.

The invitation to submit a full paper will be notified by: 31st July 2013. Invited authors should be ready to submit a full paper by: January 31st 2014.

The papers will be reviewed following the normal editorial guidelines and procedures that apply to all papers submitted to Social Networks for publication.
